"Habitar": Canal180 documentary premieres on 25 May

Casa da Arquitectura and Canal 180 present the premiere of the documentary ‘Habitar’, a Canal 180 production, on 25 May at 7pm at Space Álvaro Siza. This presentation will be followed by a talk entitled ‘The House We Want to Live In’ with architects Samuel Gonçalves and Pedro Ramalho, director Joaquín Mora and Fátima Vilar (a resident of the SAAL neighbourhood in Antas). FRee entrance.
The documentary "Habitar" (Inhabit) portrays current ways of living in Porto, emphasising the relationship between inhabitant and dwelling. Through nine main characters and their houses, we investigate the diversity of these homes. Each portrait reveals the individuality of the bond that the inhabitant creates with the space. The interconnection of the narratives brings together visions around fundamental themes for reflection on the role of housing and the expectations related to it.
In this exploration, we investigate the relationship between the house and individual and collective memory, as well as citizens' rights to housing and how they are affected by gentrification and tourism. In this diversity, we realise that the house is also an aesthetic symbol and a creation made by architects who delimit the space for those who will inhabit it and give life to these spaces. "Inhabit" offers a vision from the inhabitants of this territory and invites us all to reflect on how we want to live and inhabit our homes.
